WHAT IS HOT YOGA?

There are many different styles of Hot Yoga classes. Hot Yoga can be described as Yoga performed in a very warm and humid environment. The Asanas (postures) taught can be vigorous, like a power flow sequence, or gentle and restorative. What defines the Hot Yoga session isn’t the intensity of the Asanas but the intensity of the heat. Hot Yoga studio classes can reach temperatures of 105 F (40C) with 40% humidity, with sessions lasting between 30 to 90 minutes. The pros and cons of Hot Yoga is an ongoing debate with researchers looking at its effects on body fat and heart health. Maintaining hydration is essential in this form of yoga practice, be sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after your workout. If you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or sick in any way STOP. Often instructors will advise you not to leave the room but to stop your movement and hydrate.
